The Mayfair Kitchen Remodel centered around enhancing functionality in the heart of the home. The original kitchen had multiple choke points and lacked natural light, making it cramped and inefficient. Our team worked closely with the clients to design a space that not only streamlined daily use but also aligned with their current lifestyle.
One of the homeowners had lived in this home for several years before moving out for a period. During this time, she and her husband grew both individually and as a couple. When they moved back into the home, the kitchen felt small and dark, no longer fitting the life they had built together. They approached our team with a clear vision for a brighter, open kitchen that met their evolving needs.
During the design phase, our clients expressed a clear desire for a kitchen that fills with natural light, free of bottlenecks, and with a dedicated space for their love of coffee and tea. Through a collaborative effort between the RG Cowan Design Build Team and our clients, a customized kitchen redesign was developed.
To meet the desires of the clients, our team reimagined the layout of appliances, relocated the sink, stove, and refrigerator, and removed a few upper cabinets to enhance functionality. To flood the kitchen with natural light and create a seamless connection with the rest of the home, a wall was partially removed, transforming it into a half-wall that allows light to flow between the kitchen and living room. Now the clients can chat with family in the living room or look out the front window while doing the dishes.
One of the major choke points in the kitchen was at the entrance to the garage. To expand the floor space without sacrificing storage, the square cabinet and countertop were rounded out, opening the entrance while maintaining cabinet space.
As passionate coffee enthusiasts, the homeowners dreamed of a dedicated space that could feature their love of espresso. The coffee bar was added to the remodel, creating a cozy nook for them to pause, relax, and entertain guests.
This kitchen transformation resulted in a welcoming, custom, and functional space, showcasing the impact of thoughtful design. As people grow, the spaces they inhabit must evolve too. This remodel beautifully illustrates how a kitchen can adapt to the changing needs of its owners.
